Episode 53

He let her sob her heart out. She looked at him and said, ‘No Dee, I do not want you to leave the opportunity but my heart is not listening to me. What should I do Dee’ and she burst into a fresh bout of tears.

He hugged her and whispered, ‘I know, I know Ru.. I am feeling the same. Only thing is I cannot cry like you. But listen to me darling. We both have to be strong, ok? Our love is meant to strengthen us, not weaken us. You are my biggest strength. I am going to carry your love with me and that and only that will help me tide over these three months. Ok? And I am going to leave my love behind for you. You have to be strong Ru if you want me to go. But if you don’t want me to go, say it just once and I wont go, you know it!’
He said with a strong determination in his voice.

And she knew he meant it. He never said things just for the hec of it.

She dug her face deep into his chest and he waited till the sobs stopped.

She rubbed of her tears with her palms like a little schoolgirl and his heart went out to her. She looked really vulnerable and beaten, not like the strong Ruhi he was used to seeing in office, totally in command, confident in her skin, a leader.

He asked the air hostess to get a juice for her and once she had it, she felt better. Her head was aching with so much crying and he tapped his shoulder to signal her to nap. She nodded her head, ‘Such less time we have and you want me to sleep’? she asked.

‘Because if you are sleeping, you wont cry na?’ He joked.

She smiled then and he hugged her, ‘I love you when you smile Ru. It makes life so much easier for me. Your tears cause me too much pain. Don’t cry sweetheart.’ He whispered to her

She smiled then, her eyes going blurry again with tears with his words but she held them back. She didn’t want him to go with worries of her on his mind. After all, he was going to be all alone there.

She rest her head against his shoulder. He kissed her on her head. She turned and kissed him on his lips and soon they were locked in a kiss. Ruhi suddenly got conscious of the other passengers and blushed. Randeep smiled seeing her discomfort.

‘What am I doing kissing a married man in the plane?’, she asked playfully.

‘The married man has kidnapped you and is forcing you to do all these things, you know.’ He offered an explanation.

She nodded, ‘Exactly.’

He was happy to see her finally coming back to normalcy.

She remained calm and positive throughout their journey back.

Raavee was ecstatic to see them back and Randeep gave her a warm hug. ‘Hows my girlfriend?’, he asked.

Raavee retorted, ‘As well as you left her’. She offered coffee and Randeep couldn’t resist spending some more time with her and Ruhi.

He had to head back to office to meet the chairman who would be arriving at 4. He still had about 30 minutes to spare.

Raavee came back with hot steaming cups of coffee while Ruhi and Randeep held hands of what was probably their last private moment together.

He had told her he would head home after meeting the chairman and saying his goodbyes to the Mumbai staff. He owed an evening to Nimmi and Ruhi agreed to that wholeheartedly. She was still his wife and his best friend.

They laughed and chatted and filled Raavee in with talks about Goa and she remembered her own days when she had gone there with Ruhi’s dad.

As Randeep wished Raavee goodbye, he emotionally told her that he was leaving his most precious thing with her. His Ruhi.

Raavee nodded and patted his hand. ‘Don’t worry. I will take care of her but you take care of yourself there Champ. And call me when you need some sound advice or a scolding.’, she offered.

He hugged her then feeling like his mom was talking to him and she hugged him back. She loved him a lot for loving her daughter so much. He was a treasure, one that needed to be treasured and appreciated.

He said a quick goodbye to Ruhi at the door, kissing her cheek as Raavee excused herself to the kitchen.

‘I will see you in the office at about 5 Ru. That’s when the chairman introduces the new boss to everyone. You need to be there, ok? I want to be sure your equation with him is right from day one.’ He said gently.

She looked nervous now and he assured her that all will be fine. Her talent and skills would never let her down, he reminded her and hugged her tightly.

And then in a jiffy he was gone.

Ruhi closed the door and tears spilt from her eyes.

That was their last hug for the next three months.

Raavee saw Ruhi crying and Ruhi rushed to her arms.

‘You are much stronger than this Ru, isnt it?’, she said gently caressing her back.

‘Yes ma, but when your soul is plucked out of your body and sent away, does the strength count?’, she asked looking at her for answers.

‘I understand. But this is what it is. He loves you and that should give you all the strength to face any distance, any seperation. And remember its temporary.’ Raavee said to her.

Ruhi nodded and took a deep breath.

She wore her most professional clothes, put on some makeup and now looked like the perfect content head of a leading channel.

She kissed Raavee and said, ‘Wish me luck ma, not only do I have to say goodbye to Randeep, I also have to say hello to the man who will take his place.’

Raavee nodded, ‘You will be fine, my dear. Don’t worry so much.’

Ruhi hailed a cab and within half an hour was in office. She suddenly realised she was entering office for the first time after her accident.

Everyone was very happy to see her, enquiring about her health. She thanked suhail from the bottom of her heart for all that he had done for her.

Suhail was really happy to see her hale and hearty. So was Anupriya who filled her in with all that she had missed.

Ruhi asked about Randeep and Anupriya told her that they were in an intense meeting for the past hour.

Everyone was sad to see Randeep go but there was also a mixed anticipation to meet the new person.

It was a tough wait and Ruhi could sense the edginess in the air.

Finally much after 5 pm, the two men emerged.

Randeep’s eyes searched through everyone before landing on Ruhi. Just by his gaze, she felt warm all over and got conscious if the others could sense the effect he had on her. A few hours back they had been making love in Goa. The thought sent a fuzzy feeling down her spine.

The chairman addressed everyone informing about Randeep’s promotion and subsequent move to Singapore. Everyone cheered and clapped for Randeep. He totally deserved it. Even Ruhi forgot her sadness and felt really, really proud of him.

The chairman now announced that since Randeep was heading abroad, they needed someone to fill his place and across the board there was one unanimous choice for that position. As everyone awaited to see who was it, the chairman said, ‘I will leave it to Randeep to announce the name and hand over the mantle to that person.’

All eyes turned to see if there was anyone who was in the board room and would make an appearance. Ruhi too was tensed and nervous and tried to see who it was.

Randeep in his deep voice finally announced, ‘My dear friends and colleagues, put your hands together for the new CEO and your new boss Ms. Ruhi Manral.’ As he looked at her, she looked completely shocked.

Had he really taken her name? He had as everyone clapped and cheered and also heaved a huge aigh of relief. They loved Ruhi and who better than her to lead the team.

Randeep and the chairman beckoned her to join them and as she made her way thru her colleagues, Randeep looked at her, beaming with pride and joy.

She reached him and he shook hands with her and said, ‘There is no boss Ru. You are the boss’ in her ears as he hugged her.

The chairman too wished her and congratulated her and told her that it was very well deserve as almost all board members had unanimously suggested her name and when Randeep too put his stamp of approval on it, it was final.

On another occasion this huge professional success would have been such a high, but today it came at the cost of losing Randeep and sending him away.

She didn’t know if she should feel happy or sad. Life was indeed strange.

Episode 52

As the water hit both of them, it swept away all of Ruhi’s fears for the moment. Randeep’s strong arms held her as the water slid over their faces and slipped over their bodies. She looked irresistibly appealing now as he put off the shower with one hand while holding her with another hand.

The water droplets glistened on her skin and he couldn’t resist bringing his lips to them leaving little kisses behind as she went closer to him and held him tight. He himself looked very sexy and she couldn’t help but notice once again how fit and handsome he was even at his age.

Their hands explored each others bodies as they soaped each other and then the water rushed over them taking with it all the soap bubbles and their sense of time too.

They looked at each other, wet and wild with desire. Ruhi’s eyes gave her desire away and Randeep teased her about it. She blushed and kissed his lips passionately and then whispered, ‘I want you Dee. More than I have ever wanted anything’.

Her words aroused him even more and without breaking contact with her, he pulled one of the towels, wrapped her into it and carried her in his arms in one big swoop.

The walk from the shower to the bedroom seemed like eternity to Ruhi and she complained about it.
He smiled seeing her impatience and lay her on the bed, unable to hold himself back either.

The lovemaking was slow and leisurely this time and Ruhi savoured it to the fullest. When he entered her, she felt their souls unite, not just their bodies and she wondered how they both had stayed away from this pleasure for years.

After Randeep had satisfied her completely, Ruhi teased him that it was her turn now and he was onlu too happy to oblige. He had yearned for a woman he loved to make love to him. And Ruhi was just that. He let her discover him as she wanted and she showed him all that she knew and so beautifully that he lay all spent and smiling before her. Her touch healed him completely and filled in all those places which had been dead and vacant for a long, long time.

He silently sent up a prayer thanking the almighty for sending Ruhi to him. And she caught the expression on his face. She raised her eyebrows in a quizzical expression and he nodded saying, ‘When your dreams and desires come true, always remember to thank him. Mom taught me. Doing just that’. Randeep explained.

She lay next to him then, ‘What was she like Dee? Your mom?’

As he caressed her back lightly with his fingers, ‘She was wonderful Ru. Like a warm cinnamon roll on a cold winter morning. I was her world. I am sure all only sons are the world to their moms.’he replied remembering her nostalgically.

‘Hmmm… True. Did she know about you and Nimmi’? Ruhi asked gently.

‘I think she guessed. Of course she never asked me. But I think she could sense my unhappiness. Because a few years into my marriage and she started falling ill very frequently. I realised much later she was worrying about me constantly. Finally the worries manifested into breast cancer and passed away. I had lost dad when I was sixteen, so with her passing away, I was left all alone.', he said sadly.

Ruhi instinctively hugged him as if trying to wipe away his loneliness. She could relate with him in that sense as she too had lost her father early in life. But atleast she had her mom.

Randeep kissed her nose and gently bit it. She pretended to be angry and pulled his ears.

Her hair was wet and he fussed about she catching a cold. She argued she wouldn’t. But he insisted she went and blow dried it.

'I wouldn’t want you to fall sick when I am not here Ru.' He told her and she had to bow in to his concerns.

As he heard the dryer in the bathroom, his own thoughts wandered to his life in Singapore. How would he fill his hours after work? He hoped that he could finish the project quickly and come back. For Ruhi. For himself.

When she came back, she saw Randeep fast asleep and snoring gently. She sat next to him and watched him sleep for a very long time. He had a deeply contented look on his face and she was happy seeing that. She put the bedsheet over him and wandered to the courtyard.

Her first meeting with Randeep flashed thru her memory. He had been her boss then. Now he was her life.

The next day passed of in a blur. They had woken up twice in the night and ended up making love. Morning was no different. They just couldn’t get enough of each other.

But by afternoon, Ruhi had started panicking. He could see it though she tried hard not to show it. As they packed their bags and checked out of the hotel, she had retreated into her shell and nothing he said could bring her out. She had fallen into a gloom and was scared that if she spoke a word, her feelings would all come rushing out.

The two days in Goa had been a dream but it was time now to face the harsh reality that awaited both of them.

In the car ride towards the airport, Ruhi kept looking outside the window. Randeep held her, tried to cheer her up but she just couldn’t look at him lest he saw the fear of losing him in her eyes.

'Speak to me Ru. Tell me what you are thinking. Dont shut me out like this', he begged of her but she was stoic in her expression.

He sighed still holding her but feeling helpless.

The ride back was so different than when they were coming in. They had been happy and full of hope.

As they boarded the plane, Ruhi just couldn’t hold herself back. She settled on her seat and as soon as Randeep sat next to her and held her hand, she looked at him and burst into tears.

His heart broke to see her like that and he held her in his arms tightly hoping his hug could soothe her and calm her and put her fears to rest.

But how could he deny what she felt when his own heart felt heavy. In fact the pain in his arm had started to creep in. It was always a signal to the state of his mind.

He could feel her body shaking against him with her sobs and he just didn’t know how to console her.

Finally he said, 'I am going to cancel my trip to Singapore Ru. I cannot at any cost see you crying like this.'

She turned her face up towards him and through her tears tried saying a no. But she didn’t succeed.

And his own eyes went all misty to see her face wet with tears.

Episode 51

She hung up the phone as she caught Randeep looking at her.

She threw the phone on the bed and came and sat on his lap putting her arms around him.

‘Hmmm.. What you looking at Dee?’ she asked naughtily.

‘Nothing. Just thinking no one should have the right to rule over someone’s heart so much.’, he said kissing her.

‘Hmmm. True that. But why do you let someone do that? Stop them na.’, she offered cheekily.

‘Ya… You are right. I must do something about it.’ He kissed her on the forehead. ‘What do you suggest I do?’

‘Hmmm… let me think.. Maybe punish them for what they are doing to you.’, she said seriously.

‘Punish them is a good idea.’ He said pretending to think.

‘See I always offer good suggestions.’

He patted her back and said, ‘Let me take you out first, then I will come back and punish that person, ok?’

‘What do you have in mind?’, she asked smilingly knowing she was challenging him.

‘I am going to tease her, kiss her, cuddle her but not make love to her. Like leave her halfway.’ He suggested.

‘You think you will be able to do that? Sounds a bit cruel, no?’ she said.

He bit her ear. ‘You must see what she does to me. Doesn’t leave my mind. Doesn’t let me sleep. I keep thinking of her all the time. All I want to do is to be with her. Some magician she is, I tell you.’

She giggled. ‘Really Dee… You must do something about her.’

She got out of his lap then and pulled him on his feet.

‘Chalo.. before you start the punishment right away.’ She laughed.

‘Ya Ya, I have a long night ahead. We better go quickly and come back’, he playfully added.

They left their room and walked towards the beach hand in hand. Every now and then, they would stop to hug or kiss.

‘Hows Nimmi doing?’ Ruhi enquired.

‘She is having a blast. I am really happy to see her happy.’, Randeep confessed.

‘And you Dee? Are you happy to have me?’, she seriously asked him looking deep into his eyes, holding both his hands in hers.

‘Why do you ask that Ru? Aren’t all my actions telling you what I feel for you?’ he asked pushing away the flying strands away from her face.

‘I am not the perfect woman to have Dee… Abused, beaten, scarred, lot of baggage. Even physically I have so many scars to remind you of my past.’ She said looking at him earnestly.

‘You are also peace, beauty, happiness, calm… More than anything you are the breath I inhale every moment. You are life Ru. I started living only after I met you, after you hugged me, after you touched me. Making love to you is like drawing energy from you. I feel so, so alive, so loved, so cared for.’ He said drawing her into his arms.

She smiled going up on her feet and kissing him on his forehead.

‘I love you Dee… More than my own life. Your going away is something I cant bear but I know to be together, we both will have to pass this test of seperation. I also know that had you not have to pay to that bastard ex husband of mine, you probably could have refused this job too.’ She looked sad as she said this.

‘Hey.. don’t blame yourself Ru. I didn’t do it for you. I did it for myself. I can be very selfish when it comes to what I need, you know. I needed you. I wanted you. It’s a pity he only asked for money, I could have given my last breath to have you.’ He said softly, his lips barely a few inches away from her.

As she said this, she put her fingers on his lips. He kissed her fingers and soon they were locked in a deep kiss which didn’t need any more words or assurances.

The water wet their feet but nothing could break their kiss. They were so engrossed in it that they didn’t even realise how dark it had gotten or how there was no one on the beach at this time.

She was the first one to move away. He smiled at her as she was out of breath.

They had a quiet dinner in one of the beach shacks, enjoying each others company where Randeep told her about his role and project in Singapore and what it entailed.

She surprised him with a few brilliant suggestions he could use and he felt very proud of her. It was so heartening to know how intelligently she had used her abilities despite her bad marraige and difficult circumstances.

As they walked back, Randeep called the chairman to discuss some plans. He also made a few other calls to Suhail and Anupriya to check on the goings on in office.

In their room courtyard, Randeep attended to some mails sitting in her embrace while she gently caressed his hair and kept kissing him in between. Every now and then he would turn to get a taste of her.

Working while sitting in her arms made the work seem so easy.

‘Should I get you some coffee.. Dee?’she asked him gently.

‘But that will take you away from me. No.’he said adamantly.

She laughed at his childish excuse. He kept tuping and then he saw her feet.

He turned and said, ‘Hey Ru… What happened to painting your nails? I must do it before I leave.’He suggested biting her nose lightly.

‘Be my guest Mr. Kapoor.’ She said.

‘Ok after work, madame..’ he bent a bit to show his eagerness.

She remembered how he had totally concentrated on painting perfectly. She told him that.

‘Only thing is after that I saw you the way I would never like to see you again Ru. Hurt, injured, bleeding.’ He kept his laptop away suddenly and hugged her as if he was reminded of the visual.

‘You know when you lay still and unconscious in the hospital, I kept looking at your toes from outside hoping you would wiggle them and I could paint them again.’ He said with a pained look on his face.

She caressed his cheek to distract him. ‘Forget it Dee… its done and over with’.

He nodded pressing his arm a bit and trying to rotate his shoulders.

‘Paining again? Here, give me your arm.’ She ordered.

‘I think it’s the typing. Nothing much.’ He tried telling her.

‘No, it’s the stress of remembering the accident. Your body always responds to stress, remember that Randeep. Remember this when I am not around too.’she said and then regretted it.

She could see his face stiffen with that line.

She realised that as a woman it was always easier to express your pain plus Randep had always been very sensitive to what she was feeling. Men didn’t have it so easy. They were always supposed to be tough, not cry, not express which she thought was very unfair. She knew Randeep was hurting much more than she did probably.

He tried to hide the pain from his face but she could see it. She took his arm and as she tried to relieve him of his pain, she also encouraged him to tell her what he was feeling.

‘Tell me Dee.. tell me whatever is going through your mind. Your pain, your fears, your doubts.. I want to hear it all.’ She said softly.

‘I am very scared of losing you again Ru. I have almost lost you twice. I don’t know how I will live there without worrying about you.’, he said looking at her.

‘I will take care of myself, Dee. I promise.’ She said. ‘Ma is also there.’

‘And if that bastard troubles you, you will tell me and not hide it from me like you did earlier.’ He asked raising a brow.

‘No I wont.’ He twitched as she pressed a particularly painful point.

‘And when your arm pains, what will you do?’she asked him back.

‘I will call you.’ He said like an obedient child.

‘Yes.. or skype me. I will show you what to do, ok?’

‘Ok.. my darling..’ He took his arm back and pulled her into his arms.

‘That’s enough. Your touch takes all my pains away.’ He said pulling her up on her feet and picking her in his arms.

‘If you allow me now, I would like to do some things which I wont be able to do on skype.’ He said naughtily.

‘Oh yes. Skype hasn’t advanced so much yet’, she laughed.

She told him to wait as she wanted to have a quick shower before sleeping and Randeep found the idea quite exciting.

So as soon as she was inside, he knocked saying he wanted to tell her something urgently and as she opened the bathroom door, he entered in saying they must save water for the good of the entire world by having a shower together.

Ruhi giggled at his naughtiness but the idea was too enticing to refuse.

As she stepped into the bath with him, the thought of his going away and how much she would miss him again started bothering her.

Three months was a long time. She just hoped she would be able to pull through it without losing her sanity.

She decided then that as soon as she got back to Mumbai, she would join work as quickly as possible. Keeping herself occupied was the only way not to miss Randeep too much.

But then seeing someone else in his cabin from day after would only remind her of him every moment.

She dreaded meeting her new boss and could only pray that he was nice to her, especially now since the news of Randeeps soft corner for Ruhi must have spread thru office.

Episode 50

It was Ruhi who stirred first. She had fallen into a deep sleep and now when she looked at Randeep with his hand sprawled on her, he too was sleeping like a baby.

She slowly moved his hand away and got down from the bed, not wishing to wake him up.

She stretched lazily. She felt very alive after the lovemaking. She turned back and looked at Randeep, Her Randeep.

Suddenly the thought that he would go away the day after niggled in her mind. She felt sad but tried to push the thought away. She still had the next day to her.

The consolation didn’t work too much but she couldn’t do anything about it.

She picked up her clothes and went to the bathroom to have a shower. The hot water would do good, she thought.

It did and she emerged fresher and happier. She came out to see Randeep still sleeping. Looking at the watch, she thought she could wake him up with some coffee. It was almost going to be 6 pm.

She made two cups of coffee for them and came and sat on the bed, placing the cups on the bedside table.

She ruffled Randeeps head and bent to kiss his cheek.

‘Get up lazy Dee.’,she said.

He stirred but refused to open his eyes.

She kissed him again but instead of waking up, he put his arm around her and made her lie down instead.

‘Dee… what are you doing? Come on..wake up. Its going to be 6’, she cribbed.

‘You smell so nice Ru.. Come closer. Let me soak in you for sme time.’ He said finally opening his eyes to look at her.

She was wearing a chiffon dress in yellow and she looked really beautiful to him. Her hair was wet and hung in small curls.

He grabbed her and said, ‘I am not going anywhere Ru. I need to make love to you right now’.

She giggled as he kissed her neck, her back and his hands started exploring her. She herself couldn’t resist him. He looked adorably sleepy and vulnerable and soon her senses went into a tizzy as Randeep did wonderful things to her.

She sighed in pleasure and he looked at her looking like a pleased cheshire cat.

‘Ru, day after tomorrow is my last day in the Mumbai office. You will come to office na with me, so I can say my goodbyes?’, he asked her.

Her face changed expression and suddenly she became solemn. He noticed it and kissed her. She hugged him tight. ‘I cant live without you Dee. I cant’, she whispered.

Her eyes turned all misty again and he kissed her cheeks and ruffled her hair.

‘Aye Ru. Please don’t cry. I will call you, message you, bother you so much that you will not feel alone even for an hour. And listen we can skype at nights’, He tried to make light of the situation but his own heart felt sad at the prospect of leaving her.

‘We cannot hug on skype Dee.’, she complained.

‘Hmmm.. true that.. But we can see each other na. And listen I will tell Bhasker to wrap up the case as fast as he can. Then you can fly on weekends to me.’ He tried to cheer her up.

She cuddled upto him. He held her close trying to assure her with his touch that everything would be ok.

She dug her head in his chest, trying to get as much of him as she could.

He abruptly said, ‘I can smell coffee’.

‘Oh ya I made coffee for us. Dee see because of you, all of it is cold now’, she complained, trying to wriggle out of his arms.

‘You stay, I will get them warmed again’, He got up and putting on his clothes walked to the kitchen.

She followed him and hugged him from behind as he put the cups in the microwave. He held her hands around him and kissed her fingers.

‘You know Ru, Suhail really loves you. I was right about that.’he said.

‘Where did Suhail come from?’, she wondered.

‘Just.. I just remembered him. He was as worried as me when you met with the accident. I could see it in his eyes.’, he said softly turning to take her in his arms.

He leaned against the kitchen top and kissed her forehead looking at her lovingly.

She hugged him and said, ‘What if the new boss doesn’t like me?’

‘And why wont he like you?’, He questioned.

‘I don’t know. I don’t want to go to office. I am so used to seeing you there.’

‘You will manage just fine, ok. Remember you are very good at your work. No one can beat you on that’, he said proudly.

They finished their coffees and Randeep asked her if she wanted to go out.

‘Lets call ma and then go, ok?’

‘Sure. You call mom, I will just check on Nimmi.’he told her.

Nimmi was all naughty on the phone. She teased Randeep about making love to Ruhi. And Randeep blushed and laughed. She told him about her day and they filled each other in, like old buddies.

‘Nimms, to be honest I don’t want to go to singapore.’

‘I know that. Why cant you refuse Deep? You can, you know.’ She reminded him.

‘I cant Nimms. But my heart is just not in it.’, he confessed.

‘Hmmm. Lets figure out something Deep.’

‘I leave day after. There isn’t any time to figure things out.’, he said sadly looking at Ru who was chatting on the phone.

‘Listen just set things up and then come back. Get a good man there who can take your place.’, She suggested.

Randeep nodded in agreement.

‘Oh by the way have you told Ruhi yet?’ Nimmi asked.

‘About the going yes. She took it very badly but what choice does she have?’, he said sadly.

‘And the other thing?’, she prodded.

‘No not yet. Will have to though. Don’t know how she will react to that.’ He whispered.

‘I will miss you Deep’.

‘Nimms I will miss you as much. My favourite two women are going to be here and I will be all alone there. Not fair at all.’, he tried to joke.

‘Distance makes the heart grow fonder Deep. Don’t worry. Ok now you go and have fun. I am expecting a call.’, she said.

‘Aha I know who is calling, Cool. Enjoy. I will see you tmrw night. Bye Nimms.’. He hung up and saw Ruhi talking animatedly on the phone.

God, I am really going to miss her. And now after having made love to her, it was going to be tougher to stay away from her.

She was pure addiction, his Ru and he wanted the addiction to be with him as soon as possible.

He made one more call and satisfied with what he heard, he waited for his sweetheart to finish her call.

The night was theirs and he looked forward to it.

Ankahee Chapter 1

Posted by Shabia Walia on

Chapter 1 – He looked at her through the glass panes of his cabin. She smiled unabashedly as a colleague teased her blatantly. She had that thing about her, to make everyone laugh. She drew people towards her without trying at all. He was drawn towards her, like a star hurtling towards the ground.

She pulled him towards her without knowing it. Yet, he did not have the liberty to stand next to her, talk to her, tease her like the others. He could not touch her, hold her close or even kiss her.

He smiled at the irony of his being. Here he was the most powerful man in this empire. Yet he had to stay away from the object of his desire. He had to contain his feelings lest they gave him away. The others could have lots of her freely but not him, not even a drop. He couldn't let his heart rule over his head though she had completely captured his heart.

He was powerful but completely vulnerable in front of her. He had to hide his feelings every second lest someone noticed. After all he was the Ceo of the biggest conglomerate in the country. He couldn't wear his heart on his sleeve. So what if it was being torn every second? So what if he could call any girl he wanted? Not this one though. She worked for him.

All he wanted this second was to walk across the room and tuck in the wisp of hair escaping from behind her ear. Then hold her close to him lest she escape from his arms. He wanted to then kiss her, kiss her till she was out of breath. Till she begged of him to let her go.

The phone broke his thoughts. He picked it up with a sigh. It was his wife, informing him of the impending dinner with a few business men. No pleasantries, no how are you, no have you eaten lunch, just stating facts. And then the line went dead.

He sighed, not only was he the CEO, he was bloody married at that. His gaze inadvertently went towards her again. She was now furiously typing away on her laptop. She bit her lip once in a while, thoughtful as if she was struggling to find the right words. And then she looked up, and looked straight at him. And his eyes transfixed on her, the familiar stirrings pulling at his heart. He struggled to look away as she smiled at him.

He smiled back, careful not to let his eyes give away the state of his heart, the effect she had on him.

The secretary walked in, breaking his reverie, reminding him of the meeting in a few minutes. He straightened up, trying to focus on his work. She would be a part of the meeting. She would be close to him. For now that would do. Just breathing in the air she breathed, just being next to her, listen to her voice, see her from close quarters.

He got up, walked towards the conference room, he wanted a few moments to himself before she and the others walked in. He opened the door and walked inside, not noticing someone already sitting there. And then he saw her. She looked up as he closed the door behind him. Now they were just the two of them and a few minutes between them before the others walked in. She smiled at him and he felt his resolve of focus melt away. Damn!
