Ankahee Chapter 48

Episode 48

As they pored over the menu and discussed and debated what they should eat, Randeep forgot about his woes for some time.

He was a seafood lover and the menu excited him. They settled for a grilled kingfish, some crabs and prawns curry. Randeep ordered a wine for himself while Ruhi didn’t want to take a chance with alcohol reacting with her medicines, so she settled for iced tea.

While the seafood platter cooked, they stepped out on the beach hand in hand. Ruhi got rid of her footwear and headed into the water while Randeep resisted going in but soon he followed her more out of worry of she losing her balance than his own wish of enjoying the water.

She saw him heading towards her and splashed a huge wave of water over him. He swore and ran behind her to admonish her for doing that. But the moment he caught her, she caught her ears in mockery and he just couldn’t bring himself to say anything. So he did the next best thing.

He bent down and did the same to her as she had done.

Revenge was sweet as Ruhi was almost drenched.

She cribbed a bit about her dress being ruined but he sealed her lips with a kiss and the cribbing was forgotten.

They then walked hand in hand lazily stopping for hugs and kisses in between till Ruhi spotted a trinket shop. She went through several pieces and finally liked an anklet. On asking the price she found it very costly and left it behind.

Randeep coaxed her to buy but she didn’t and Randeep let her be.

The waiter waved out to them signalling the arrival of food and as they entered the restaurant, Randeep told Ruhi that he would make a call to Suhail and come back.

He checked on office and the goings on and was glad that things were being managed well by his staff. He felt sad leaving all of them behind. They had been a good team. In fact he hadn’t even said his goodbyes to them yet. As he thought about leaving India, he felt a sadness creep over him.

Inside Ruhi waited for Randeep to arrive so that they could eat.

He arrived a few minutes later and he had a packet in his hand. She wondered what it was he had got. And he opened it and emptied the contents on the table.

Ruhi gasped. Randeep had brought all the anklets in different colours for her and while she asked him why he did that, she was very excited too. He bent down then and tied one around her ankle and it looked so pretty on her.

She kissed him on his cheek and he was so happy to see her happy.

‘I better buy whatever I like next time otherwise you will buy the entire shop for me na Dee?’she asked naughtily.

‘True that but not in a diamond shop haan. I am not that rich Ru.’, he made a sorry face.

She looked at him seriously then and said, ‘Dee how much money did you pay him to get off my back?’

‘Who?’, Randeep feigned ignorance,

‘You know who, Dee… Tell me.. I want to know.’ Ruhi said determined.

He sighed and turned towards her. ‘Not even one thousandth of what you are worth Ru. Making me say a figure is like making me insult you. Please don’t do that to me..hmmmm.’, He almost begged her.

She had tears in her eyes then and one even spilt out on her cheek. She went into his arms. He hugged her tight.

‘I know him Dee.. It cannot be a small figure. I am sure he must have really extracted the last penny from you.’ She said bitterly.

‘But look what he gave me in return Ru. He gave me you. You think that’s not a good deal? I would give every damn penny I earn to him for the rest of my life if I have to, only to keep you with me like this, in my arms, safe and loved’, He said softly looking into her teary eyes.

And hearing him say that, she cried some more. She had never ever imagined that someone could ever love her so much.

He didn’t like to see her crying and wanted her to stop.

‘Now see the crabs and prawns will cry too if you continue trying and I am really really hungry. Can we discuss accounts later when I can do other things and distract you?’ He asked her mischief playing in his eyes.

She smiled then, hitting him lightly on his chest. He wiped her tears, gave her a fork and served her food.

They ate in silence as the food was really good. The wine made Randeep a bit lightheaded as he was not a regular drinker but more of a social one.

They walked hand in hand for a few minutes before they found a nice shady spot to sit and admire the ocean.

Ruhi made designs in the sand sitting in Randeeps arms while Randeep traced designs on her arms with his fingers.

‘Dee’.. she said

‘Ummm…’ Randeep answered with his eyes closed.

She leaned backwards against his chest and he shifted to offer her support.

‘I love you’. She whispered to him.

‘Umm..thats good… You should always love your boss… he is always right.’, he teased her.

She hit him on his arm. And he laughed.

‘First you cure the arm, then you hit it. What kind of a healer are you Ru?’ he complained.

‘Chalo na… lets go.. I am sleepy.. That heavy lunch is getting to me.’, she said.

‘Hmmm… We will go. Sit with me for ten please.’, he wanted to prolong going back to the hotel.

She sighed and rested against his chest and they both closed their eyes and lay there, only their breaths syncing with each other.

It was a private beach of the hotel and there was hardly anyone around.

She let him be and went through the anklets he had got her. There were atleast 40-50 of them. She tried each one on her feet and when she was on the eleventh one, he said, ‘That looks beautiful. Wear that’.

‘I thought you dozed off.’, she said.

‘You don’t let me sleep Ru. Not for a moment. Sad but true.’ He said expecting some sympathy from her.

She looked at him smiling, got up and said, ‘I am going to the hotel, You sleep as much as you want.’

She started walking and he had no option but to go after her.

He caught up with her and hugged her from behind.

‘I thought I deserved some love and sympathy, I got attitude.’, he complained.

She laughed. ‘Love and sympathy.. We shall see.. Mr. Kapadia.’

They entered their room and Randeep handed over her medicines to her.

‘Ru have them before doing anything else, please.’ He coaxed her.

She hung her arms around him.

‘Now someone promised me something, you know.’, she said seductively.

He removed her arms from around him, gave her water and signalled her to do what he was telling her. She did that and then he led her to the bed and made her sit and he knelt down on the floor in front of her with his hands on her lap. He held her hands and said, ‘Ru I need to tell you something’.

She looked all worried and concerned now and her brow was taut with worry.

‘Listen, Its nothing that serious. Just listen to me first, ok…’ he said not sure how to say it.

‘Tell me Dee.. what is it… I cannot bear the suspense.’ She begged of him already her eyes looking sad.

‘Ru.. I… I… have to fly to Singapore tmrw for three months…’, he blurted out.

As soon as he said it, there was a silence for a few seconds as she stared at him in shock. It was as if it still hadn’t sunk in.

And then she got her hands out of his clasp, stood up and went out to the courtyard and sat down facing away from him as the tears started rolling down her eyes. She begged them not to but they just wouldn’t listen to her.

Randeep saw her sit there and cry and his eyes filled with tears. He let them flow. After all, how long could he hold them back?

Why couldn’t life be a little simpler for both of them? He thought.

He saw Ruhi sitting there, sobbing inconsolably like a child and he couldn’t hold on any longer. He went to her and knelt beside her trying to console her but she just wasn’t ready to let him do that.

‘You really thought Dee that getting me to Goa would make the pain go away?’she said thru her tears.

Randeep had no answer as he seriously had wished that it would make it easier but he was wrong, just so wrong.

He apologised to her saying words he himself knew were not working.

‘Listen Ru.. it wont be so bad. We will talk everyday.. we can skype and yes as soon as the case gets over, you can even fly to me. I will come over on the weekends…’ he tried to give as many assurances as he could.

She looked at him. He looked so miserable himself that her heart went out to him. ‘I know you are not at fault Dee.. I know that.. But how do I let the only happiness I have known go so far away from me?’ she said crying bitterly.

‘Listen.. Ru… Stop crying and listen to me.. Instead of feeling miserable and crying, why don’t we both spend whatever time we have in the best possible way and create gorgeous memories to keep with us while we are away from each other? Hmmm… think about it…If you cry like this, I just wont be able to go.. but if you and I spend whatever time is left with us happily, then parting will be a bit easy for me.’ He said sadly.

She kept looking at him then. He was as sad as her and he was right. She had such little time with him and she could not spend it crying. She wanted to squeeze out years from every minute.

She wiped her tears and his, urged him to rest his head on his lap and bent over him to hug him.

And when finally after some time when both were at peace from the upheaval, he looked up at her and smiled. She smiled back to him.

He kissed her forehead and said, ‘Good girl. Now I can go in peace.’

‘You cant go without making me yours completely Dee..You just cant… You have to make me yours in body just as I am yours in soul.’she said to him with renewed determination.

‘Are you sure Ru? We could wait. I don’t want it to be another thing to make it more difficult for you’, he said gently.

‘No… I am absolutely sure Dee… You cant get away so easily. Not now. Not ever. I want you to make love to me till I beg you to stop.’ She said with a smile.

‘And I hope you will never beg me to stop loving you Ru. That’s the only thing I wish for.’ He said with eyes full of love for her as he got up and picked her up in his arms.

She looked at him, her eyes full of desire for the man who had given her so much happiness in just a few months.

As they say, you could live a hundred years in one moment or you could spend a hundred years and not really live even for a moment. It was the same thought that ran thru both their hearts as they both became more determined to make the most of their remaining time together.

Episode 49

As he carried her, she leaned over and kissed him on his cheek.

He kissed her back on her lips. As they reached the bed, he put her down, holding her by her waist. He held her face in both his hands and said, ‘I love you so much Ru, you have no idea. I have been wanting to make love to you since the day you walked into my office.’

‘Show me how much you love me Dee.’, she said softly.

He kissed her passionately on her lips, she kissed him back, hungry for more. His hands caressed her back as she held him at the nape of his neck, tilting her face to get more of him, moulding her body to fit his.

He kissed her neck, her shoulders, his hands not getting enough of her.

They didn’t remember who undressed whom or whether they undressed themselves.

He took a minute to observe her, so beautiful in front of him.

She still had marks and bruises from the fall but she was still the most beautiful woman for him.

He led her to the bed and as she lay down, he lay next to her, turning towards her. His hands moved over her upper body as his fingers circled lazily around her breasts as she moaned in pleasure. He doubled the ecstasy by kissing her while his hands continued doing what they were doing.

She could feel his strong, muscular body over hers and she knew he wasn’t putting his whole weight on her. Trust Randeep to be worried about her even while making love. She smiled and he gave her a quizzical look.

He stopped what he was doing and looked at her. She nodded her head and said, ‘Nothing Dee. Just falling more in love with you.’

He said to her, ‘You realise na Ru that its been several years since I have made love to a woman. Shit, I am damn nervous of disappointing you’.

Ruhi chuckled and kissed him, ‘The boss is having performance anxiety, hmmm?’

‘A major one’, he confessed.

She looked at him while holding him, ‘You know Dee, we both are scarred in our own ways but we also complete each other despite them. We may not be perfect individually but we are perfect for each other.’

‘I couldn’t have put it better Ru. I love you for saying this’. He said lovingly.

‘Now could you please continue what you were doing?’ she asked naughtily.

‘You like it?’ he asked and she blushed then and turned the other way laughing.

He saw her back and all the beating marks on it. His heart skipped a beat and he felt all protective about her all over again. He went closer to her and kissed her back at each point where the scars were.

She closed her eyes to feel his every touch. She wanted to lock the memory in her mind so that she could go back to it when he wasn’t with her.

She turned now and he brought his lips to her breasts and she squealed in delight.

His hands discovered her body as if she was a treasure waiting to be discovered. He took his own time with each part of hers as if it was his duty to make sure none was neglected.

She made pleasure sounds and he loved it. It excited him even more to know that she enjoyed his touch and him so much.

He had never felt this intimacy in his own marriage. In fact, so many nights he had longed for love, that physical love which cements a relationship, where intimacy mirrors the love you feel for someone. But he had none. And now he had Ru, to love, to explore, to cherish and make love to. He felt a deep sense of happiness in his heart.

As his hands moved towards her core, she couldn’t but help revel in the sensation. She had never experienced these form of sensations before. And when she couldn’t contain herself anymore, he led by her entered her gently so as not to hurt her. He knew she had lived without physical intimacy too long, just like him.

Together they united in love to a perfect rhythm, their bodies fitting with each other perfectly in sync and the missing element in their relationship was complete. Randeep felt such a joy in his heart that he was surprised how good it felt to be inside the woman you loved, to be held, touched, loved by her.

Ruhi was drowned in pleasure as Randeep took her completely and when they both were spent, Ruhi had tears in her eyes and Randeep panicked that he had hurt her.

He quickly took his weight off her while saying, ‘Ru are you ok? Did I hurt you? I am sorry.’

And she stopped him from moving away saying, ‘No Dee… You didn’t hurt me. In fact, I have never felt better than I do now.’

‘Then why are you crying?’ he asked confused.

She moved closer to him, her hands on his chest, ‘You know Dee, I have never known such gentle love making. It was always violent sex with beatings and roughing up. It was frightening and scary and very damaging. Not the gentle, loving, freedom inducing lovemaking I felt today’.

He kissed her forehead. He felt angry again at the bastard. He held Ruhi closer and said, ‘Forget all that Ru. You will never have to go thru all that again.’

She smiled thru misty eyes, ‘You know Dee, I used to hate it. I used to be so scared that he would ask for it that I stayed up late out of the house, roaming on the streets or waiting down so that he would be fast asleep when I went up. But it never worked. In fact he would be even more angry and brutal after that.’

Randeep hugged her tight and wiped a tear which escaped her eye.

‘I always used to think how it would be to be loved gently, made love to by someone who genuinely loved me, where it was not about power but all about giving oneself to the other completely’. She whispered.

He continued caressing her knowing she had to talk about it to let go of it. He knew it was painful for her to relive it but he didn’t stop her.
He knew listening to her was the best thing he could do now.

‘Until I met you. You gave me so much love, so much softness, you worry about me at every instant, hold me so dear, sometimes I feel God sympathised with me and sent you as a balm to heal my wounds.’, she looked at him as she spilt her heart out.

‘He kissed her right breast then and said, ‘And you as a balm to me. You know half my life I have cursed my aching arm but now I thank it everyday for giving you to me. Had you not offered to heal my pain that day and hug me, I would have never told you whats in my heart.’

She pulled him closer to kiss him, ‘And what a loss that would be Dee’.

He kissed her and then said, ‘Listen Ru, I know it will take a while to forget all that happened. I myself cannot forget my lonely life before I met you. I hated going home as the emptiness of it would kill me. But together we will make a future full of love. Promise me you will never give up on us. You will always put our love ahead of all our problems and believe that our love will take care of everything as long as we both love each other.’

She nodded shaken by the sincerity and seriousness of his words.

She hugged him silently thanking God for him and his love for her.

‘Listen Ru, I have a small thought coming alive in my head since the past few days.’, Randeep confessed.

‘Tell me.’, She prodded him.

He put a strand of hair behind her ear and said, ‘When I am back from Singapore, I will ask Nimmi for a divorce. Now that she too is looking forward to move on, I think it wont be a problem and then I would like to… if you agree that is… marry you.’

She kept looking at him trying to register what he was saying.

Her silence puzzled her. Had he scared her away.

‘Would you, I mean Ru, would you like to get married to me?’ he asked a bit unsure now.

She burst into a big smile and hugged him. ‘Oh Dee, You really mean it?’

‘Of course why would I say it if I didn’t mean it darling?’, he questioned her back.

‘No.. I mean.. I didn’t expect it…’she said dizzy with happiness.

‘Dee.. can I ask you something? You can refuse if you don’t agree. I wont hold it against you’., she whispered.

‘There is nothing you want which I wouldn’t want Ru… tell me.’ He replied.

‘Dee.. I have always loved.. ummm… loved babies, wanted one of my own but if you don’t.’, she stopped abruptly.

‘Why wouldn’t I Ru? God, how much I have wanted to be a father to my own child. Listen I want two Ru’s ok?’, he exclaimed.

She smiled at the thought as she formed a mental picture in her mind. He could see her happiness in her eyes. She lay close to him for several minutes and then got up.

As she attempted to move away, he pulled her, ‘Hey I am not done with you yet Ru.’

She giggled and said, ‘Neither am I Boss but lovemaking does make you thirsty, no?’

He laughed and she gulped down some water before she came back to him and he embraced her all set for round two.

Ruhi knew the remaining of the day would pass by in a haze as they explored each other and still remained hungry for each other.

How she wished time would stand still and tomorrow never came.

Finally they dozed off in each others arms spent, satiated and happy and without a care in the world.

Randeep protectively had his arm around Ruhi and whispered to her, ‘I love you Ru.’

She whispered back in sleep, ‘I love you so much I could eat you up Dee’.

‘Soon soon, You shall have your wish’, he said smiling in his sleep.

The clock wished it could stop for these two lovers. The sun wished it didn’t have to set today. The universe wished it didn’t have to separate them but none of them could fight what was destined to happen.

They could only hope that there would be a miracle. Just like Ruhi and Randeep hoped too. But for now they were contented to be in each others arms.

Episode 30

Ruhi giggled uncontrollably as Randeep whispered into her neck, ‘If I knew dessert was so good, I would have skipped dinner’.

‘Hmm.. So I am a dessert?’, she mumbled

He left what he was doing and looked at her.

‘Actually no. You are life Ru.’ He whispered.

She gazed at him soaking in his words. He loved her so much. What had she done to get this gift, she wondered.

‘You don’t know how happy I am at this moment. Not in my entire lifetime have I felt what I am feeling now.’, he confessed.

Ruhi held his face in his arms and kissed him on his forehead.

‘You are so good to me Randeep. I sometimes think all of this is a dream. If I open my eyes, poof! It will all go away’, she said softly.

‘No it wont. I wont let it, I promise.’ He held both her hands which were circling his face.

She smiled. She lowered her hand and laid it on his arm.

‘How is this now?’ Ruhi asked him with concern.

‘Its better Ru. I have found a new doctor. She is a magician.’ He teased her.

She smiled. ‘You know Randeep all our physical pains are manifestations of what we lack in our lives’.

‘I agree. In fact tell me. And I want to know. You were hit by that bloody bastard everyday. How did you handle it Ru? I mean, the physical pain.. the emotional one…I mean didn’t anyone, your frinds notice?’ Randeep asked her gently.

‘You know Randeep. He never hit me on my face. So no one ever saw any marks. Plus I was in a different city from where I grew up. So I barely had any friends and since what was happening to me was nothing to be proud about, I kept myself away from making any new friends.’ She said looking down.

He pulled her close then and closed his eyes. It must have been terrible for her. How he wished he could go into that phase and erase all of it.

Ruhi continued. ‘I am good at hiding my pain. The physical ones I took care of by myself. But you know the worst part?’ she questioned moving away to look at him.

He stared at her quizzically. She smiled then and said, ‘You will find it funny but whenever I tried applying some ointment, my hands just wouldn’t reach my back.’ She laughed trying to make it light but the tears brimmed in her eyes and escaped over her cheeks.

He couldn’t hold back his tears either then.

He hugged her tightly hoping his touch would erase all that pain. He wished he could heal her pain the way she did for his hand.
He then gently turned her around and while she wondered what he had in mind, he unzipped her dress to reveal the marks.

His fingers moved on each scar and as he caressed them, she twitched. He bent down to kiss each one of them hoping his kiss would take away the pain.

She turned around unable to take such gentleness and hugged him burying her head in his chest.

She knew he was deeply affected. She had to change the mood. She didn’t want him losing sleep over her past.

She said, ‘You know boss, you seem to take your employees for a ride’.

He wondered what she meant. ‘How?’ He asked.

‘You promised you would allow me to apply nail paint?’ she reminded him.

He smiled to himself. He knew she was doing it to distract him.

‘Ah yes. Where is that damn thing?’ he looked around.

She reached out to her purse and as she stretched, he placed a kiss on her back. She gave him a warning look. He laughed.

As she started to open the bottle, he took it from her and before she knew it, he dipped the brush in it and lowering his head near her feet, started applying nail paint to her toes.

She giggled, ‘No Randeep. I can do it.’

‘I am the boss. I can do it better. Now stop giggling. You are spoiling my artwork’ he cribbed.

As she stopped laughing, she noticed that he was really concentrating on painting her nails in the best way possible. She ruffled his hair gently.

He looked up. ‘You have such beautiful feet Ru’

‘You are biased, you know that right?’ Ruhi said smilingly.

‘Just a bit. But I like women who have pretty feet. I think I have a foot fetish. If I wasn’t a media person, I would give pedicures to women’ Randeep confessed laughingly.

Ruhi laughed. ‘And you would be the best at it, I know’.

As he finished his artwork, she wiggled her toes while he blew over them to dry the paint.

She looked at him with a lot of love then. And he caught her gaze.

‘I love it when you look at me like that Ru but its dangerous.’, he warned her mockingly.

‘Hmm… Bad wolf trying to scare the deer, is it?’ She challenged him.

‘Oh no. This wolf is scared of the deer. Not the other way round’

‘Ha ha..’ Ruhi laughed.

‘Ok now come here. Enough of all this. We have to finish so much of work’. Randeep ordered.

Ruhi got serious and said, ‘Oh ya the presentation right, Come lets finish it.’

He pulled her into his arms then and said, ‘Not the presentation dumbo.. Come here’.

She then understood what he meant and as she went towards him. But the hotel room phone rang just then and she stopped.

'Oh no…', he said but then went and picked it up.

The hotel receptionist said sweetly. 'Sir Mrs. Kapadia is here to see you.'

It took Randeep a few seconds to comprehend that Mrs Kapadia was none other than Nimmi. But what the hell was she doing here at this hour?
